I’ve been talking to a number of bloggers trying to understand their core interest in blogging and what motivates them to continue to do so.
I’ve discovered that many bloggers don’t really enjoy writing but they do it for a various assortment of other reasons.
This begs the question: Do you have to love writing to be successful at blogging?
For myself, I honestly can say that I really enjoy writing. I enjoy the process, the challenge, the mental gymnastics required to maintain a robust schedule and to not sacrifice quality over quantity.
But do I love it?
I’m not so sure.
So, from my perspective, I’m not sure you have to love writing to be successful, but that might change tomorrow (because I’m pretty mercurial at times).
Eh. What are your thoughts?

I do not like writing. In Fact, I might make my posts just shorter.

I love writing! I like blogging because it gives me a forum to practice my writing. I also like reading blogs that make me see life differently. Your blogs do that. Sometimes they make my brain cramp, but thats a good thing 🙂

Writing and blogging are two different entities for me. "Writing" I connect with working on my novels; this is a long-term creative process, much of which I do "for me," and includes a modest pay check. I love it. "Blogging" I connect with day-to-day communication with a sometimes elusive audience; like Twitter and FaceBook, I actually blog for accountability's sake (keeps me sharp), and for marketing (keeps people thinking about quality stuff I might put out). Even this comment, I don't "need" to post, and has admittedly taken 4 minutes of my extremely busy day, but I believe "forces me to write" something, if even of temporal nature. As you say, I like the challenge, and it keeps me disciplined. ch:
