Design Thread: Southern Baptist Convention Pastors’ Conference

Was shared with me earlier last night and wanted to see what other people’s thoughts were on the Greater Things Pastors’ Conference website. I think it would be neat, on a sidenote, to start a new series of our community reviewing other websites’ designs, etc.

Perhaps this is the first one…!

What are your thoughts? It’s an “open thread” below, so you can be as honest as you want.

Check out their favicon, which I think is pretty neat.

Go for it.

    Thumbs Up:
    Love the logo
Overall design is clean and easy to navigate
    Code is also fairly clean
The Site Credits page encourages people to upgrade from IE6, which is just awesome.

    Thumbs Down:
Video automatically started playing on pageload
Lower third div seems more piecemeal than the rest of the site (no texture, SBC logo looks like clipart, alignment of the three elements in it is not balanced)
Contact page is just a form. I’d probably want to see a phone number and address on there as well
Speakers page inconsistently links to twitter page or bios of the person. I think putting some time into creating a page with a short blurb about each speaker and links to Twitter and further bio info would be more helpful.
Some color contrast issues on a few headings (most notable on the “About” and “Schedule” page)

After thinking through it more and more I am starting to like the logo more. At first I didn’t like it. I’m not a huge fan of using crosses in logos. With that said I am not opposed at all of the use. Obviously. It’s the Cross.

    Alright moving along…

I agree with Tim on the thumbs down section. Especially the speaker page; http://www.echoconference.com/speakers/

Other than that things are clean and I’m a clean guy. Thanks for the post and hope to see more of these.

I like its simplicity & functionality. It’s not busy & I can find things. It is conservative in its design but elegant & fitting for the community. It would be great to have a link to the backstage videos for the speakers (unless I missed it).

Looks like a fairly conservative design for me – nothing really sparks my interest here

One thing In did notice was a serious lack of female speakers!!
