Last week’s look at online pornography was highlighting just how serious this sin is. If we truly believe that sin is a road that leads us into “the eternal fire,” shouldn’t we approach this problem with more resolve? For the great majority of people, unplugging your Internet connection is not the answer. However, if that’s what it came down to, if that was the difference between enteral life or eternal damnation, we should not even second guess the decision and pull the plug.
That was the point, not the solution.
The solution is facing up to what leads us to online pornography use in the first place. It’s about the decisions that we make each and every day.
An online friend pointed out pointed this out to me after reading last week’s blog post. That is why I decided I should expand on this a little further. It wasn’t my intention to say that unplugging the Internet was the answer. In fact, it would be better for you to keep your Internet connection and win the battle against the core issue—lust! It would be far more profitable for you to gain victory and use self-control.
Not only is this a better example to our own children, but it is also a quality of a believer, it is a Fruit of the Spirit. Self-control in one area of your life will overlap and help you in other parts of your life, too.
Most people never wake up in the morning and think, “Today, I will indulge in online pornography.”
Indulging in online pornography is the conclusion of many different small decisions made throughout the day, week and maybe even months and years. I’ve had friends keep away from pornography for over ten years, only to find themselves trapped in its clutches. This wasn’t something that happened overnight.
Building up our self-control, conquering lust and understanding the importance of the decisions we make in our lives, our key points in overcoming pornography.
