I think cyber crime is one of those things that you never thing is going to happen to you — especially if you’re a geek — but these statistics tell us otherwise. In fact, mobile devices are the most at risk connected device with only 50% of users using basic security precautions.
Social media is a huge target, too:
- 39% of cases involve the user not logging out after each session.
- 1 in 3 connect with people they don’t know.
- 12% of users are hacked because someone pretended to be them (creepy).
- 1 in 4 share their passwords with others.
As Church techs, it’s important that we inform and help others understand how to stop cyber crime happening to them. After all, your knowledge and expertise — dare I say, “gift” — is technolgy, so use it to build up the Body of Christ! 😀
Here’s the infographic I pulled some of this data from:
How do you prevent your church family from falling prey to cyber crime?

Roberto says
Well we use the “low hanging fruit” approach if you will.
– We use a password management utility like LastPASS or 1Password.
– We patch all devices software with tools like Secunia PSA.
– We don’t share passwords with anyone.
– We put a password on all mobile devices.
We also use a layered approach on our network by using services like OpenDNS and hardware firewalls.
