Great post. A couple questions, can you give links to the products you are using? I found js-kit.com for the comments but can't locate the jsvideo you mentioned.
I just helped a church launch their streaming site http://www.iamcornerstonelive.com and http://www.iamcornerstonelive.com/live.php
Any feedback you have would be great.

js-kit.com for comments
livestream.com for video
http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-playe… – for the player, which is also free. At the time of roll out, version 5 didn't work with livestream.com we are on 4.6.

Awesome. I love to see what other people are doing & get excited when I hear that they are using components that are free or cheap. We use similar components & i'd love that last custom one when it's ready to roll. Also, do you know of any free add ons that would allow a user to take notes & email them to themselves? Thanks for sharing!
thanks mike. the next piece that we are adding to the app is the ability to control the links on the church home page to switch to live! when we are on.
for notes: you can really use an form you like and give it the ability to email the data. If you have Wufoo, which I highly recommend, just make a form there.

cool stuff. definitely keep me posted. We do use Woofu forms. Hadn't thought of using it like that. nice! I'd love to chat with you more about some of this stuff & the role of internet pastor. Also, what are you using for encoding on you end & how much is it? we use livestream & yeah, video is not too good. Thanks!
Vince great post, our church started using Dreamhost as provider. Then we set up DSS and was able to get a live feed going but the quality isn't the best but it could be my DSL connection. Three questions: 1) how did you get rid of the ads that livestream has? 2) what are your connection speeds? 3) why not use IntenseDebate for comments?
1). premium Livestream.com account doesn't have ads
2). We have a wicked fast connection at Gateway, but when you encode on your end, you don't need what we have. Also if you're uploading full res video and having your provider encode it, you aren't going to get the best quality.
3). Neither was meant to be a chat service, but js-kit can look like one.

on our end we are using the Newtek Tricaster Studio – http://www.newtek.com/tricaster/tricaster_studio….
really overkill for most churches, but we're planning on some pretty intense stuff in the months to come.
we are just starting to talk about getting the stream to mobile platforms. We're looking down the HTML5 road first since that's probably where things are headed.
hit me up any time http://www.vincemarotte.com

Excellent. Thanks for this post.
one other question – do you make use of the feature on livestream to stream to iphones? I haven't been able to use their desktop app without it crashing constantly (on mac).
i don’t think you can straight from Flash Media encoder. You would have to rely on livestream to encode your video…which is not good.
we’ve since moved to limelight networks
Have you guys come closer to releasing your backend app for the banner controls?
If not, can you point me in a direction to start understanding how to pull that off?
I’m targeting the end of June to make it available
