I’m sure you’ve seen websites with a little shout-out bubble with the latest tweet.

Maybe I’m just Old School, but I think it’s awesome and a lot of fun. I really want to add it to my own site, and now with this latest piece of code from Cats Who Code, I can!

I run my site on WordPress, so I could obviously just throw on my latest tweet widget, but I want to creatively embed it into my theme. That’s the great thing about this code.

First, drop this bit into your functions.php or into your own functionality plugin:

return($status);
}

After you’ve done this, adding it into your theme is super simple:

echo get_status('catswhocode');

As quick and easy as this is, it’s the CSS you’ll have to toy around with the most.

If you drop this onto your site, be sure drop us a link in the comments so we can see what you’ve done!

Normally a web design project goes hand-in-hand between your HTML and CSS.

Your HTML markup and CSS go back and forth as you work up your design.

Not anymore!

Bear CSS is an awesome, free online tool that will turn your design process on its head … in a good way

Here’s how it works:

Bear CSS

Bear CSS is a handy little tool for web designers. It generates a CSS template containing all the HTML elements, classes & IDs defined in your markup.

First, create your HTML document and only your HTML document.

Then, go to Bear CSS.

Upload your HTML document on the Bear CSS website.

Your CSS template is generated based solely on the HTML elements used in your HTML document.

Download your CSS file.

Slick, right!?!

Learn more about Bear CSS, check out their website, and I’m sure you’ll want to bookmark it for your next project!

Creating image effects using CSS3 gives your web design a lot of flexibility and can save you a lot of time.

Imagine using the same photo effect on every photo and image you use, only to have them look butt-ugly when you try to modify your theme later down the road. Not only that, but having to add photo effects to all your images can be very time consuming.

Using CSS3 to create these basic design effects is certainly the way to go.

Here’s how:

How-To Create Emboss, Pressed & Glossy Images Using CSS3

With a little Dynamic jQuery and some CSS3 magic, you can add some image styles that are really hawt!

Subtle, but solid!

Sad panda

Here’s a little WordPress snippet that can give you a little breathing room between your published post and your updated RSS feed:

How-To Adjust Your WordPress RSS Feed Publishing Time

You can easily add this snippet to your theme’s functions.php file, but I would recommend dropping this into it’s own functionality plugin or adding it to some other functions you may be using that’s not connected directly with your WordPress theme.

Here’s the codeness:

function publish_later_on_feed($where) {

Did you know that WordPress can display posts you have scheduled?

How awesome is that!

This would not only be cool for a band website that lists upcoming shows or events, but it would be great for bloggers who plan out and schedule blog posts ahead of time. What a great hook for returning blog readers to subscribe to your feed or come back, so they don’t miss one of your upcoming awesome blog posts.

Here’s how to do it:

How-To List Future Posts

Just drop this in your WordPress theme file, tweak and style accordingly.

<div id="zukunft">
    <div id="zukunft_header"><p>Future events</p></div>
    <?php query_posts('showposts=10&post_status=future'); ?>
    <?php if ( have_posts() ) : while ( have_posts() ) : the_post(); ?>
</div>

Drop it on your front page, footer or sidebar. A handy snippet for sure!

How-To Get Posts from One Year Ago, Today

I like this one.

What a great way to get some more mileage from your past posts. So many times, readers come and go, and you may have some great posts they may enjoy.

This snippet of code would be dropped into a specific page template you should create for your readers to view posts from “one year ago, today.”

<?php

HTML5 and CSS3 are new and exciting and has lead to a number of solid templates to get started on web projects.

Here’s a new (that’s relative, isn’t it?) template worth taking a good look at:

HTML5 Reset

Now that modern browsers are starting to support some of the really useful parts of HTML5 and CSS3, it’s time for our best practices to catch up, and we thought we’d put our files out there for everyone to use. By no means do we see this as the One True Way to start every project, but we think it’s a good starting place that anyone can make their own.

Some of the boilerplates that exist are on the heavy side, so if you’re looking for a nice, simple alternative, than this is what you’re looking for. Plus, they have a little something for those developing on WordPress, too!

HTML5 Reset

Fully commented, HTML5 Reset is sweet package, and with version 2, HTML5 Reset is lighter then ever.

You can download the templates from Github, including the HTML5 Reset WordPress Theme!

With the assistance of Digging Into WordPress and their BLANK WordPress Theme, we’re excited to present the HTML5 Reset WordPress Theme — a style-free theme designed to help get your custom WordPress project off the ground.

The theme includes:

Semantic HTML5 markup

Starter CSS declarations for the basic WordPress elements

A widget-ready sidebar

It’s called, “The Geocities-izer,” and it can make any webpage look like it was made by a 13 year-old in 1996.

You know, back when websites were built “the old fashioned way” with Notepad? When counters were cool and Netscape was the best browser?

Good times.

Here are what some websites look like when Geocitified:

The Geocities-izer

Just add your URL and submit!

ChurchMag

Tentblogger

8BIT

Michael Hyatt

There are a few different themes it uses to revert any website back to 1996, so don’t expect anything too elaborate. It is, however, a lot of fun dropping URLS in and seeing how they turn out!

Be sure to have your volume up, too, since a website from 1996 isn’t complete without music automatically playing, right?

Have fun!
