China is toying with the idea of converting public telephone booths into Wi-Fi hotspots.
The smartphone boom in China has left behind phone booth use in its wake, with most phone booths only being used once per day.
This turns into an economic loss, since these phone booths are regularly maintained. Converting these to Wi-Fit hotspots will help bolster the current patchy and slow 3G network, boosting user experience and creating more headroom for new users.
The perfect solution to an enormous paradigm shift of telephone technology.
