The Center for Church Communication has recently launched (in BETA, of course) the new Church Marketing Directory, a simple online directory of resources to help you and the Church communicate more clearly.
Online directories are nothing new, so what’s it going to take for this one to be more awesome than the next one? What’s going to make this one more successful than the rest?
I think this one has the potential to be great…!
A few thoughts: What does lightly edited mean? What’s the “level” of quality control? How about sorting by locale?
I think it could quickly get out of control unless there’s some good curation going on; I’m sure they’ve already thought about that!
And, don’t forget to do your research:
Do your own research and make sure the resource is a good fit for your church.
Agreed.
Some additional points the intro email included:
- Use the ‘Suggest a Link’ option to add resources; make sure your “go to” people are included.
- The database will reject links that have already been added, so don’t worry about duplicate suggestions.
- The current category structure is designed to flex and expand as needed, so it can and will grow.
- If you have suggestions or comments on the Directory, please send them to our Editor (kevin@cfcclabs.org)

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for. This could be an amazing resource. Thanks for the tip, John.
sure dude.
btw, it’s like red vs blue! your red hoodie vs my blue… shirt thing.
red = win.

Very cool.

What a great resource! I just suggested a link to my site. Thanks, John!
sure!
Thanks for the plug! As you know, we’ll be rolling out our official launch later this week, so you got the early scoop.
Hopefully what makes the Church Marketing Directory more awesome than the next one is that there aren’t many (any?) directories out there aimed at the church marketing field. You can find Christian marketing or general graphic design, but it’s hard to find anything as narrow as this.
“Lightly edited” means that we’re not re-writing every description that’s submitted. In many cases we’re just using a site’s tagline for the description. The point here is listing resources, not laboring over the description.
The bar is set pretty low as far as quality of resources listed–this is a directory of all church marketing resources, not a curated list of the best of the best (that comes later!). Think yellow pages, not Best 100 Christian Blogs. That being said, we do hope to add some features to help sort out the best from the rest (comments, ratings, etc.).
Sorting by location is an awesome idea that’s come up before. Those are the fun goodies we hope we can add down the road.
Hope that helps answer some questions. We’ll probably be giving some more background on this whole project when we make our official announcement later this week.
thanks kevin!
