This is Part 2 of the 5 Part Tech Series on “Blogger Basics.” Find the rest of the series here.
HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language, despite what you’ve heard…
How many of you knew that?
Maybe most of you, but perhaps a few did not. And, for many of you, that’s pretty much where your knowledge ends (and that’s ok!). HTML (and any code for that matter) can look rather scary (if you stare at it long enough).
And with the rise of WYSIWYG editors, the “need” to actually know any HTML can be completely avoided, but if you want to take your blog to the next level you should know about it (and perhaps know a little code too).
Sometimes taking your blog to the “next level” is more than just better writing; sometimes it’s adding graphics, media, widgets, or a little code to make your blog standout of the crowd. Knowing even the basics can arm you with enough to make your blog look fantastically different (and up-to-date).
If you want to get started, check out W3Schools and their overview. Want some history? Wikipedia has good coverage.

Are you going to give us a .PHP or CSS overview as well?
not sure those are “basics”…!
CSS is pretty fundamental to design at least. But the average blogger probably doesn't want to spend time changing the a:hover color. Though I could be wrong.
yes. i'm talking “basic”… like.. uber basic.
Yeah, I really need to transform my blog. Don is going to help me transfer everything over to wordpress, as I use blogger right now. I know you got some phat themes… where can I check out your themes?
you can probably check out most of them over at http://human3rror.com … but, i have a few that i'm releasing soon…!
I was searching for some last night, but had a little difficult. Do you have a particular page devoted to themes?
just the category “wordpress” on the right… but more info to come soon…!
I just did a search on the Human3rror site "wordpress themes" My calledtofitness.com site is using crush press right now with mild edits (still more to make in the advertising areas, just too busy).

uhmm going over to wiki to understand more. John, I'm not sure why we need to avoid html? my posts end with .html all the time. I dunno why
I'm not suggesting that you avoid it… i'm suggesting you learn it!
