New generic top-level domain (gTLD) registries have been rolling-out all year. Some of the most popular being: .GURU, .BERLIN, .PHOTOGRAPHY, .TIPS, .TODAY.
As more of these new domain extensions get launched, it opens up a lot of potential and opportunity, but the final outcome looks uncertain even with over 340,000 new gTLD domain names registered. The one that caught my attention as someone who lives in Europe is .BERLIN, which had over 31,000 registrations on its first day!
What do you do with that domain name, anyway!?!

As I posted a few months ago, I am not-so-patiently wait for the new global top-level domain (gTLD) registry to launch for .church domain names.
As a follower of Christ and knowing many church leaders are waiting for religious centric gTLD’s, I was curious about some of the other new gTLDs that would be meaningful to Christians. I think there’s potential with domain names ending in .BIBLE, .FAITH, .CHRISTMAS, and even .CATHOLIC for the separate brethren.
DJ Chuang, .BIBLE Registry Manager, approached me with the idea of a dual-authored blog series to help shed some light on what is going on with these new gTLDs. We will go back-and-forth a couple of times and see how it goes. DJ will write up a reply to this blog post over at the .BIBLE Blog (http://BibleTLD.org/blog) and I’ll reply to his reply, and so on.
Here are 5 questions to get us started:
- What do you think about all these new gTLDs?
- Exactly how many new gTLDs will there be?
- Who is behind the .BIBLE registry?
- Why should churches care?
- Should my church register all of these gTLDs?
While I may or may not have a couple of .BIBLE domain names that I’d like to get (I wouldn’t want to say anyway 😉 ), I am sure there are many of you who have already scooped yours out. Remember, as these domains are released, it’s a first-come first-serve.
What burning questions would you like DJ to answer?
You can find the answers to these questions here.

Thank you, DJ. Now we just need to get you on the podcast and pick your brain on ChurchMag some time — that’s the only way we could make it any more awesome. 😉
