Are You a Hands-Free Type of Mobile User?

A quick user poll for the ChurchDrop reader-base:

Do you use a hands-free device with your mobile phone? And if so, which one?

Personally I don’t use one because I think it looks weird. For some reason I still feel funny when I see someone talking loudly into space – then I finally see that yes, they are indeed wearing a hands-free device, and at this time we exchange awkward glances at each other.

Or maybe that’s just me.

You rock it or not? Tell me what I’m missing out on…

Nope, not unless I’m in my house. I don’t publicly for the issues you stated, but it’s nice when you’re a multitasker and hate clutching your phone with your shoulder.

Hands free device is required when driving in Oregon.

It’s still weird in public though. I also think people that wear them when they’re not on the phone are a little strange.

FYI: Texting while driving in Oregon is also illegal

I use an ancient Motorola Bluetooth headset with my cellphone — primarily when I’m sitting at my desk or I’m driving. I rarely have it on me any other time. (It doesn’t hold to good a charge anymore.)

On the other hand, I think you (anyone) looks silly when they walk around with a roach in their ear all day as if they’re expecting a call any minute. You wouldn’t walk around with your phone to your ear all day waiting on someone to call would you? Of course not. :)

Nope. Just the iPhone. I think they are annoying. Especially when people use them when in stores and coffee shops etc. I used to work in a coffee shop and i had countless men come in and say “hey!” and when i respond with “hey! how are-” they would get frustrated and point to their ear piece. lol oh man.

I just use the upgrade level Apple ear-buds. (They don’t hurt my ears like the ones that come in the box.)

Only when in California for work. Then I use the standard wired earbud with mic.

Yes- I have to because I’ve dropped my iPhone (the OG w/ the aluminum back) so many times that the volume button is possessed.

So, in order to talk I must use teh bluetooth.

I use the Prime III by Jawbone.

It’s the best on the market (my opinion)- and I scored it on Ebay for $55! (It retails for $120+).

I don’t keep it in all the time, only when I’m actually talking with someone. And I don’t go into public places talking on it. (There is etiquette for these things people!)

The other reason I have one is because I do a lot of calling while driving. It reduces distraction (and let’s me check email at the same time! KIDDING!)

With some states requiring the use of a hands-free device, it may be a good investment (vs the inattentive driving ticket).

I think bluetooth ear pieces (for cell phones) were made to let the clinically insane get out in public more often.

    Only in certain situations.

My job frequently requires me to have both hands on what I’m doing yet take part in a converstaion – it’s tough to do that when one is taken up holding a phone. So then I use a bluetooth headset if I’ve remembered to charge it up :(

Rest of the time I don’t bother and in the car it doesn’t even come out of my pocket.

I don’t use one. I recently had one of our congregation members tell me that they saw me speeding down our city’s main drag and talking on my phone sans headset. He then told me that it’s illegal in IL to talk on the phone while driving without using a headset. I reminded him that that is only the law if one is in the city limits of Chicago. But out in the burbs (where we are) it’s perfectly legal to hold your phone to your head and talk while driving.

    Bottom line… I don’t use a headset while driving… ever… even if I’m driving in Chicago. Sorry… I’m a law breaker I guess.
