This is the tenth article in the series App of the Week series.
My life is a mess and without organization, I would be one big ball of anxiety. Unfortunately day planners just do not work because you do not always have it accessible, unlike your digital planner that should be accessible from a desktop or mobile device. Everyone talks about a different number of apps, but I really think that when you factor everything into the mobile apps, one comes out on top that will have almost everything that you want. (Note: Evernote is not a true to-do application and will not be compared here)
The Good
There are several reasons beyond having the basics that make this the best task list iOS app out there.
- It Is Free I make this claim upfront because there is one productivity app out there that has the same features, but looks sexier: Things. The problem is that the mobile app is $9.99 and the desktop app is $49.99. Way to expensive for my budget. Wunderlist has nearly everything Things has and its free.
- Desktop App If you have a mobile to-do application, it has to have a syncable desktop complimentary app that will be needed for scheduling in the office. Without it, you are stuck on a mobile device that can cause huge frustration.
- More Than Just Checkboxes Wunderlist has incorporated some great features, including sub-tasks, repeating tasks and Smart Lists. The idea is that you want to put together your task list as soon as possible and these features help you do so right away.
The Bad
Of course, no to-do app currently has it all yet and so here are some shortcomings of the mobile app.
- Not Beautiful This might not seem important, but applications need to be visually appealing if they want to be successful and Wunderlist could do a great deal of improvement in this area.
- Crash and Duplication At the time of writing this post, the application several times a month will crash and when you return, will have a duplicated item if you were adding or not have deleted the item if you were removing one. A big and frustrating issue.
- Only Manual Sorting If you are a chronological kind of organizer, you will have to either input your tasks in order or manually organize everything because you cannot sort via the date. Really?!
What do you love or hate about the Wunderlist app?
