Android Handsets are Getting Really Pretty…

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve kept my ear to the ground (and my Google Reader) about the all the new Android handsets that are being released.

The truth? They are getting super sexy. I mean, they are beginning to look way better than the iPhone. Am I a sucker for amazing industrial design?

Yes. Take a look at this one for example…

The Sony Erisson XPERIA x10 is just one of the handsets that have got me drooling:

What’s it going to take to stop me from making the jump? One word: Apps.

Even as much of a mac fanboy as I am, I’d have to agree and say that some android phones have looked amazing lately. I’m impressed. Although I <3 my Iphone.

I love my Droid, particularly running on Verizon’s robust network. One would think that Google would be able to catch up to the iPhone in apps very easily, since the ideas are already out there.

Although, the only apps I’ve ever seen for iPhone that I wish Droid had were things like a Mint.com app or something like that, where the company needs to have the app made to fit their product.

Why did they waste 40sec of a 1:38min video showing us the box? Weak.

In all honesty, the only place where I really see the Android Marketplace suffering is in games (which, if you’re like me, isn’t that big a deal) Pretty much everything I’ve wanted to find an app for, I’ve been able to find an app for. Plus, with the browser being so awesome, a lot of times I can just use a company’s web site if they don’t have an app.

Having lived in the desert of AT&T on the iPhone for the past year, I’m looking forward to the possibility of Verizon getting it.

But, I’m with you and Liz Lemon, John- the apps are a deal breaker for the droid tech.

The ‘demo’ of the XPERIA has a little notice about how the actual product may vary or be different than the animated concept. That’s what I like about Apple; they use and show the actual product in commercials and demos.

By the way, a friend that works at Verizon (in management) said the rumor is that Verizon may get a ‘lite’ version of the iPhone in the third quarter. Not sure what that means exactly, but there you go.

Mmmm, Android. The hardware has definitely been getting prettier, but don’t forget that the OS has taken a leap in the last 6 months and the Android Market is becoming more and more of a legit place for app devs to invest time.

I hope so. This will be interesting. I’m not jumping off the sinking USS ATT just yet though- I can’t, my contract isn’t up! :)

Apps will mature, even if it’s a bit slowly.

I think at the same time, the slow(er) growth of Android Apps will lend itself to more longterm success. I’m hearing grumbling amongst iPhone developers…

yup. still a stacked market though…

it’ll be where the money is.

Curious to see what happens as time goes on.
i think apple has to work hard to stay ahead of the game if they want to keep everyone’s attention. I’m a mac fanboy. I think they dropped the ball on the ipad, and even though they raised the bar for a lot of other companies out there, they could get lazy if they’re not careful.

mmm Android is definitely my next phone. I’m for openness and believe that mobile internet apps are the future of Apps in general. I may be wrong, but if Android can get it’s fragmentation together, there’s a strong future for Android.
