Pinterest, that social media platform that is not like the others. Is it actually worth it? It seems people that do social media and blogging cannot find any traction on it, so it must be a flop right?
When I was running my personal site, I made a conscious effort to go all in with Pinterest for 6 months and found my traffic increasing 1,000% from 500 to 5,000 unique people monthly with a huge portion coming solely from Pinterest.
So yes, I’d say anyone with web marketing have to consider it or they are being irresponsible.
- 80% of all content seen on Pinterest are repins. Therefore if you are someone that makes original content (stock photography, infographics, memes, inspirational questions), you will get a lot of exposure for your content.
- Do not expect to get all of your exposure at once. Some social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter get all of their exposure at one short period of time due to their timeline approach. Pinterest as something called a longtail approach where you get a great amount of exposure for months at a time.
- When a post goes viral on Pinterest, expect TONS of traffic. The hard part is you have to have great content that is creative and viewable on mobile.

We never saw that kind of boost on ChurchMag, but we’ve gotten enough traffic that we find it worth our time to share via the ChurchMag Pinterest account. I imagine ChurchMem.es would find it more productive.
