WARNING: You may find yourself browsing for hours and wasting time you should probably be spending doing something productive after you read this post.
Sorry.
But, if you’re willing to risk loss of productivity (and if you’ve been living under a rock) check out what’s going on over at 10k apart.
It’s a real treat! Learn more about it here:
The 10k apart challenge is a way to get the web community back to the basics.. back when you installed programs on your computer with 10 floppy disk’s, remember waiting 4 hours to download an MP3!? Yeah back in the day when every byte counted.
Essentially you’re challenge is to build a web app in less than 10 kilobytes.
When was the last time you did anything on the web that small?
Sweet action!
Oh yeah… did I mention they are giving away over 10,000.00 in prizes?
Honestly it’s unbelievable what some of these developers have been able to come up with using a lot of the new HTML5 and CSS3 features. Here are a few that caught my eye.
TOEDOE: To-Do list
Afro Gorillas: That classic banana throwing game… but with Afros!
10k Personal Search Engine: Includes a dope bookmarklet and custom search options.
Racer 10k: Classic arcade racing game.
Nanopixie: A pretty amazing mini CMS allowing for quick editing of content.
Style This Sandbox: HTML and CSS sandbox.
These are just a handful of the helpful and useless mini apps you will find. 10k Apart is something you definitely want to browse through.
